Which God is Not
“The intellect can understand any part of a thing as a part, but not as a whole. It can understand anything which God is not.” page 193
That’s really not what poetry can deal
With. Poetry that’s poetry cannot
Express the whole. A poem makes us kneel
By giving details. Poetry is fraught
With resurrecting details bringing back
To life what spirits buried. One small child
With ten pink toes can help us find the track
To understanding if that foot is virgin mild
And lying in a manger on the straw
That lambs might sleep on. Poetry can show
Him and his ten pink fingers. In the awe
Which that produces, God is what we know.
..God isn’t just a great big thing we can’t
….Quite grasp. He causes carols angels chant.
