What Angels Do When Plastered

What Angels Do When Plastered

What seraphs do when frescoed high above

Us on the ceilings of a church has not

Been contemplated.  Cherubs gaze with love

Upon the Virgin Mary and the cot

Of straw and slumbering contents.  Is that all

They manage, stick to plaster roof and stare?

Are plinking harps and trying not to fall

What they accomplish, staying in the air

Made up of pigments on the surface like

Some holy hummingbirds that stay in place

While flying?  Do fixed angels want to strike

A different pose or change a pious face?

Or do they ever wish that they could droop,

Or join Satan’s fiercer fall and swoop?
