The Ultimate Dome-like Ceiling Called Mendelssohn’s Melody

Mendelssohn – Violin Concerto in E Minor, II. Andante (youtube.com)
The apogee of music came when two
Men realized that melody requires
A marathon-like length. This caused a coup
That triumphs. These are more like topless spires
Above the other tricks composers use.
When Mendelssohn and Wagner wrote these strong
As silk and steel outflowings, sent their cruise
Across the continents of sound, these long,
Long, long creations made the other parts
Of music know that they were mainly there
To waft these melodies through ears and hearts.
Those parts were just bit parts below this flare.
These coursing melodies had been the goal
Of music. They had been its waiting soul.
