The Salvation of Royal Coffee
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
There’s nothing wrong with coffee that you can’t
Improve by changing it completely in
Its taste and lusciousness and smell. Decant
Some thickest cream in there. That ain’t a sin.
No. NO. In fact it’s high depravity
To save the dark from offerings of cream.
You also need some deeper gravity
In brown — pour sweetest syrup in it: theme
It up with “Pumpkin Praline Pie” delight,
Then top it, soft, above with cream whipped up
To coronate the caffeine dose with white.
You now have nearly one quite perfect cup.
Not yet . . . add sweetener or sugar. Spoon
And sprinkle on some chocolate. Senses swoon.
