The Purpose of Preying Plumes
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
Do fledging on your heart and feathers on
Your mind. Your eyes might need some feathers, too.
The point is flight beyond yourself, a swan
Above its River Avon, past that view,
To planes not soared through. Maybe these lie in
The chambers you have not explored, the rooms
With phosphorescent walls that glow where sin
Is hiding, places like your secret wombs
Concocting thoughts and feelings you can sort.
Your ears with pinions wait for you to hear
The song you want but inhibitions thwart.
The plumes on shoulders lift you from your fear.
The eagle of your soul has talons. Let
Your flight uplift you. Love lies waiting yet.
