The Point of Poetry and Song
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
A poem or a song can be as fierce
As knife points. They are neutral, though, about
The hole they make. They care not whom they pierce
Or where the wound is punched. The rhythms pout
Along or slice through veins beside the lungs.
The song or poem cannot care who jolts.
It cares about the measures and the tongues
Delivering the pain through lyric volts
And siren blades, but that is all. The rut
Of beating cadence cuts straight through
To blood that’s beating. Arteries are cut
So badly that the brain veers off to blue.
..A song or poem is a man inside
….A woman, madness heaving in his bride.
