The Point of Greens

The scents are green in golf.  They are the green

Of grass, and hope, and promise, and of rest.

Perhaps they are the green of youth as seen

By fathers watching sons and teaching best

Of soft palm’s firmest grip on iron and life.

The sight of morning grass with rain or dew

Uplifted by the sun reduces strife

And tensions.  Green surrounds the courses, too,

Around the world.  At Callaway the trees

Are green in many shades beside the lakes.

In Italy the formal pines by tees

And fairways watch beside the putting breaks.

..A calmness, calm as summer greens, prefers

….A golf course.  Restfulness of green occurs.
