The Incensing Mystic Power of Philetadas

The Incensing Mystic

 Power of Philetadas

The slipperiest of Gods is Hermes, known

As Mercury to Romans, he with wings

On ankles and on head.  This God was prone

To really hard erections.  Stony Things

Were carved on statues of him in the Greece

Of Alcibiades.  One poet from

Cyrene, Callimachus, composed a piece

About this youth who made men’s hearts succumb

To his young charms; not just their hearts, of course,

But also other pumping organs.  Muscled skin,

Quite hairless, like a statue, had the force

To turn both poet and the rest to sin.

It seems they mocked each other for this lust

Which turned their ribs to incense to combust.
