The Councillor on Radio Four Today after the Grenfell Catastrophe
The councillor on air is very plain.
He wants the money. However urgent
The need, however huge and hot the pain,
They care about money. No detergent
Can wash away that dirt. The bureaucrats,
Elected officials (and all such lots) care
About the money only. There’ll be spats
In Parliaments and council chambers. There
It all comes down to dosh—and nothing more,
No, nothing else. The people rushed to aid.
The volunteer workers had to implore
Folks all to hold back. Their goodness dismayed.
..You write to the authorities. You dial
….For help. They answer with a “We’ll try” smile.
