Remember, Remember Not

Pause. Think of all the beauty lost in time,
The beauties are hidden in the loss of days
We never think of, beauties lost by crime,
Like empire-building, temples all ablaze,
The furnishings of palaces we do
Not know the names of, pillars blasted by
Artillery of greed, the silk of blue
An empress wore while choked, a young man’s eye,
And arm, and shoulder as the soldier stabbed
Him through hard-breathing chest. Pause and think of
That soft and milk-filled breast the rapist grabbed
As the battle raged around. Don’t think of love.
..Lost love is far too beautiful and filled
….With agony. Do not conceive love spilled.
