The fact that Alexander’s nose was long
Perhaps portended immortality
(As much as man can have). His chin was strong
And rounded with a shaped brutality
For all except Bucephalus and one
Young man, Hephaestion. The forehead bulged,
A premonition of the tactics he would stun
The world with, this king. His face divulged
His destiny. Included was his throat
Inclined towards the left which made his face
Lopsided. Alexander’s neck could gloat
With more than beauty: he could force disgrace
On lords and emperors because the swell
Of maleness there gave out a Mars-like yell.
