Passion’s Blind Carving Knife
In London ‘they almost died of starvation.’ ~ Edmund White
Inhabiting a wilderness of bored
Clichés about the plight of poets, this
Pair breathed in poverty the gods had stored
Up for them from the moment their first kiss
Sent Paul reeling as no other drug had.
He’d thought he loved his son and loved his wife,
But suddenly an inspiration clad
In poetry and slashing like a knife
Proposed, gargantuan above him, that
He’d never known the truth before
His tongue touched Arthur’s and warm seed went splat
Inside, that love comes with an ivory roar.
..Because the boy’s lust came hotly starved,
Paul’s bourgeois heart was willing to be carved.
