The reason ghosts exist beyond our sight

Is so that they can do their sucking lick

Unnoticed as a breath on lips when night

Has coddled us.  Ghosts start with cool, slight flick

Of tongue tip so we won’t suspect their lips

As dreams distract us.  Fingers less than mists

Reach down and cup our unsuspecting hips.

Some ghosts lift up our unsuspecting wrists

And sniff the blood in veins beneath the skin.

But do not be afraid.  Sleep on beyond

Caresses of this starving sort.  No sin

Is meant.  They do not want you to respond.

..They only want to give the slightest knife

….Wound, mindful of an unforgotten life.
