Modernism’s and Post Modernism’s Mobs
Let’s wreck the things of beauty just because
We’re bored and new. Let’s wreck the lovely old
Things out of jealousy. Let’s break their laws
Lest we learn we are lousy. Let’s be bold,
Destroy the music, art, and writing if
We can and do this by denying rules
(As if they’re whacky). If there is a whiff
Of what has always worked, it’s only fools
Who will not see that ruthless newness must
Come blasting in to throw these old things out
Or else we won’t be permitted to bust
And ruin everything . . . and then we’d pout.
..Then after we have won the war and scammed
….The world, we’ll smile when lovely things are damned.
Le rire (The Laugh) by Sapeck (Eugène Bataille), 1883
