Making Light of Africa’s Future
As if the darkness were not dark enough
Already, blackouts flash their blackness on
Us all. Across the continent they snuff
Out light in travesties of promised dawn.
The Naija attitude is mocked each time
The lights go off. In fact, each power surge,
Each dimming light is just another crime,
A crime against the people and their urge
To have a decent life, a life not ruled
By plutocrats’ corruption and their greed.
The people cannot be forever fooled
By fake democracy scorning their need.
…Each time the lights go off, make up your mind
..To fight those trying to make black brains blind.
