Lush Blackness Outside and Inside

Lush Blackness Outside and Inside

“with false compare” ~ Shakespeare, Sonnet 130

The eyes wait black, the eyebrows, too.  The hair

On top waves black, thick black.  These blacks all teach

That black is lovelier than yellow.  Swear

By black since it is lovelier than each

Of other colors, gold or silver, red

Or auburn, brown and chestnut–all the rest

No matter what men call them.  On this head

The glorious, this glossiness groans, “Best!”

Or shouts it out, since shouting is more pure

Than groaning.  In between the legs lurks black,

Before the entry and before the cure

The entry offers, slicker than shellac.

These blacks are waiting for your wishes, love,

And force,  They want your vehemence and shove.
