Long and Longing:  an Indian Reader in Rare Books and Music

His eyebrow cuts a cruel line—that left

One—sinister like Satan’s as he fell,

Or more like Lucifer’s, since he (with heft

Of heavenly beauty in his tilt to Hell)

Most certainly could not have realized

That there was anything but loveliness

Throughout the universe—for God had prized

His handsomeness in neon male largesse

Right up against His throne—and logic meant

That entities Christ caused would each contain

The best of comeliness which Love had sent

To be the soul of all in His domain,

The cosmos, even black-scar growth in face

And flaring nostril plunging tall through space.
