How to be a Buddha
Just walk along and pay attention to
The brutal facts around you. Notice them.
Enlightenment is waiting in the stew
Of life. If Jesus passes, touch his hem.
If not, take note of ordinary things
And see if they will cure you. They just might.
A cramp awakens you one morning, stings
You out of bed with agony. That blight
Of ugliness exhausts you and you end
Up on the floor. Enlightenment is there
Inside the torture and the sweat. The blend
Of small and utter brings satori’s blare.
..Or sometimes it is quiet, like the wing
…..Of moth on midnight’s screen. Silence can sing.
