What if the Buddha got it wrong and deaths
Don’t take us to Nirvana but instead
Produce a consciousness too much like meths,
Or LSD? Or if that final bed,
The one for each immortal soul, is full
Of nightmares (weedy paranoia),
Because the drugs we’ve done in life will pull
Us into stretched phantasmagoria–
The drugs of love and sex and greed and power?
This mixture of self-medication (or
Religious zeal) will take us to the hour
We call eternity. We’ve prepared for
What Guatama offered in the wrong way
And so we’ll get a down Ascension Day.
