Gospel Songs and Other Falseness

The hollowness of neys is crucial to
Their meaning. That is what platonic thought
Would say. Their Dervish melodies are true,
But only to the faithful. Teachings taught
By them are suspect since the notes strung out
In worship are accessible alone
To mystic dancers in a trance. The doubt
For Plato and disciples is that tone
And tone produced in mysteries of love
As fevered as that music and those swirls
May be divine, may be as far above
Unfevered lives as heaven’s perfect pearls,
But they are not Ideals. Religion’s tones
Of flawnessness are only that, just clones.
