Generosity is Gorgeous in a Georgia Morning

Generosity is Gorgeous in a Georgia Morning

Aunt Ruby never pulled an orchid from

Her water well.  Its bucket never raised

Camellias up.  What farmhouse buckets plumb

For isn’t beauty.  Water in them gazed

At her and what she saw was her reflection on

Its surface.  Was she lovely?  Cooking, yes,

A gorgeous breakfast for us.  From the dawn

When she rose up and lit the stove, she’d press

The dough for southern biscuits and then pop

Them in the black stove oven.  Then she fried

The eggs her hens had laid.  Up on the top

The coffee pot began to hint.  She eyed

The cooking meat and served up beauty for

Us all.  We never had to ask for more.
