Friday Evening Mending through “Heavenly, Heavenly Music”

Friday Evening Mending through “Heavenly, Heavenly Music”

Please tell me, Charles, what duties or what rites

You want fulfilled while you are there beyond

The living.  Would the Sabbath candles’ lights

On tables at the Gate enable fond

Announcements from the grave or serve to send

My thoughts and pain to you?  Would breaking of

The bread at Love Feasts loosen up or bend

The laws of death so we could rub our love

Against each other, dead and living man?

Would gospel songs that Benji taught us serve

To make connections, come on swifts’ wings, fan

Across the gulf, and make death’s starkness swerve?

..Come hummingbirds of heaven, raptor’s plumes

….From hell, if we can love afresh like grooms.
