Erythrina Indica

Erythrina Indica

One Ajavika in the ancient time
Was privileged to bring a sacred gift

To Buddhist monks. A blossom, the sublime
Deep scarlet mandarava, gave uplift
To them. It was a token from on high.
It meant their holy teacher had attained
His parinirvana, reaching the sky
Of gods and paradise who all were stained
With deeply scarlet joy just like the flower,

Its racemes bright with hope, resembling shapes
Like vulvas and like tongues that know the power
Of highest bliss, of ultimate escapes.
The blossom of the coral tree, they knew,

Exists in realms above the human view.
