Diluted Excuses for Chocolate and a Dark, Dark Savior
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
I castigate those “chocolate” things too pale
In chocolate content to unleash the taste
Against the tongue enough but give a frail
Idea of cocoa beans’ deep truth. A waste
Of grace they are, like chocolate milk and hot
Mug chocolate. What’s the use? A chocolate cake’s
Another perpetrator of this “not
Enough of cocoa force.” An icing makes
The crucial difference sometimes, I suppose,
But I have not encountered icings that
Save most of chocolate cakes. In fact they close
Down hope. The zing in chocolate cakes is flat.
So, German “Chocolate” Cake is plain untrue,
But Sacher Torte is saved by dark brown goo.
