Commencement: May Day
At last, the miracle comes round again:
Bright blossoms, leaves are born along the bough
And May Poles rise—while no one thinks of pain;
Commencement, so long striven for, is now!
Commencement comes, a miracle for one
Among the caps and gowns, for Lois Ann,
Lone among them all, has not just begun
A mortal struggle, but has won it, an
Unrelenting bout with Beelzebub
Reptilian and venomed in her bones.
Elated, triumphant, she wields her club
Above him. She is crowned for future thrones.
This Queen of May in mortar board and robe
Extends her realm and starts to stride the globe.
