Coincidental Consequence

Coincidental Consequence

“God’s veil over things makes them all riddles.”  Herzog, 92

It turns out that the reason women wear

Hijab in Islam is that Allah first

Adopted it Himself to hide the flare

Of His innate blaze that otherwise would burst

The eyes of all His creatures were they not

Protected by this male mantilla from

Incinerating glory.  Harsh, pulled taut

To bind that sublimating splendor, numb

It down, His mask not only saves us all

From being blasted into flaming fog

But also blinds us, a merciful pall.

At least that’s how I see his hate filled smog.

Though mercy is the claim of His wide veil,

It swathes creation, makes the cosmos quail.
