Brevity is the Soul of Life
Some flowers are more beautiful because
They bloom so briefly, have so short a time
To blossom, and then fade. These are the laws
Of loveliness. These rules are not a crime
Or even an expression of some wrong.
They are an underlying fact of life
And so are gorgeous. Things that live too long
Are far too far away and full of strife
Like stars and nebulae. A pale pink rose
Bush, Generous Gardener, sends out flowers
So fragile and so beautiful they pose
A threat to heart because they last just hours.
A Morning Glory poses much the same
Delicate menace. Death will not be tame.
