Both Sad and Calm
On the back of a post card I quoted from The Queen of the Damned:
“The morning would come and he
would be sad but calm.”
Both sad and calm cathedral beauties are.
The picture on the card of Salisbury glows
With stillness. It was taken from the far
End from the altar, but a boredom grows
While contemplating it. The arches glide
Away to smallness and the gold-like light
That fills the choir stalls makes the altar slide
Away in loneliness. The crossing height
Is stained with gilding tones and yet these too
Retreat away in distance and are felt
More than perceived with eyes. The purply blue
Of stained glass windows seems to mist and melt.
..Esthetics lacking hair go quickly pale.
….I wanted worship lacking any veil.
