Birds Control with Melodies the Changes of the Hours

The mockingbird sings not to us but to
The hovering night.  He brings the evening on

Northern Mockingbird Sounds, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology

And leads it to its darkness.  Twilight blue
Becomes the night, the opposite of dawn,
Because of mockingbirds.  The whip-poor-will
Abets this change that those are singing for.
These allies cause the lingerng light to fill
With singing blackness.  Blackbirds’ measures pour
More beauty into night and robins sing

Their nighttime lullabies.  While lovers sleep
When they have finished passion, birdsongs bring
The outside world to rest, their meanings deep.

  Darringer wren brings on the dawn with fast
