Beyond

                        Beyond

Beyond this writing of ourselves upon

Eternity, we need the finite veins

Of heart.  It teaches love is not withdrawn

When we have left.  Love hovers leaving stains

As breath upon the air of heaven’s light.

The light and air both feel love’s lingering tint.

This echoing is what the stars recite

In whispers.  Always love will leave a glint

Of borealis midnight curtains.  They

Are like this love, both fleeting and returned

Between the sunset and the dawn.  Stains play

In lavender and green, a god we spurned

Yet scintillates in darkness and in cold,

A god above who cannot be controlled.
