An Object Lesson for the Brevard County Church Elder
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
He works beneath relentlessness of sun
And sweat of air above him and around.
It’s true that later clouds will form and stun
The state with rain and lightning. The ground
Of Florida will be a thing of steam
And ozone when at three o’clock the sea
That heat convection has sucked up will scream
In thunderstorms that bash and drown the bee
Yard, but for now there’s only weight of heat
And wetness on his skin. He thinks of wife
And kids at home. There’s really nothing neat
In all of this, but this is his known life.
He lifts one frame from in a hive and sees
The workers slaving. He is one with bees.
