Aegean Immortality
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
The eye begins to wonder if the truth
About Greek statues is that gods still sleep
Within them, living, deep within their youth.
The eye looks wide at white, Olympus steep
In beauty in their shapes, as if a god
Or goddess dreams within each one and waits
To waken yet. Our spirits’ eyes are awed
Now by what waits behind those marble gates,
White marble eyes, that stare at us without
Accepting we are there, no feeling in
Their blankness, eyes that never had to pout,
Those eyes that never knew the weight of sin.
..Immortal in perfection these are eyes
….That wait to live again above blue skies.
