A Trinity in Thought
Jehovah, and then Plato, and then Mo
Imposed eternal absolutes on us.
Mohammed says that we’re supposed to grow
Our roots in Allah. If we don’t, Mo’s cuss
Will blast us, so watch out for suicide
Pathetics on the prowl. Jehovah’s law
Is perfect, too, and His sensitive pride
Requires no gods before Him. Plato’s awe
Is for transparent flawlessness as well.
Ideals are far above us. Since they can’t
Be seen or smelled, their beauty must compel
Us. This is these three’s universal chant.
But I want you, your odors and your flaws,
And not those sweatless, immaculate laws.
