“A man’s reach should exceed his grasp”
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
He wasted love. He took and gave it all
Around and wasted it. He took as much
As anyone (almost) would offer him, small
And large and in between, a loving touch,
The warmth of smiles, the kisses to begin
(Perhaps) a sexual adventure . . . and
One sealing marriage. Differences in
Intensity and decency, and bland
Excuses for real love: he tried the lot.
Yet everything he tried, he cast away.
No instance was enough. No loving caught
Him in its trap. No loving made him stay.
..He wasted love. He always wanted more.
….He always wanted oceans, not the shore.
