Primitive Sophisticated Truth

….……
When Greeks believed that nature’s aspects moved
As gods and goddesses, as wind and fire,
Then Bóreas came shrieking as he proved
Their faith in shivering valleys. Male desire
Compelled the smithy god, Hephaestus … who
Found Aphrodite (wife and cousin) in
His bed with her own brother, Ares … to
Concoct a blacksmith’s way to catch their sin.
He made a metal net to cast across
Their meshing lust and then he called the whole
Of Mount Olympus to observe his loss
Of dignity. They found it far too droll.
..The nature that the Greeks revered was bald
….And cruel. They were honest, not appalled.
