A Perfect Piece of Knitting,
Torn, Repaired
“the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” ~ 1 Samuel 18:1
Charles, my friend, was never so heartbreaking

As when he smiled, like Schumann at his best.
The beauty of my friend was heart-shaking.
His life was filled with ruination’s quest
For love and some escape because he failed
To see his beauty was enough. His wife,
Wife, wife could not quite save the man. He flailed
About with Christ and blue-eyed women rife
With promise. His own promise was a drugged
Up thing, though, like his mother’s life. She drank
And drank and drank because his father shrugged
Her off and left her only Charles. It stank.
..But when I looked at him, and when he smiled,
….Our broken, tangled sorrows were beguiled.
