Avadana

Avadana

A deed that floats about and firmly sings

In space is what you need. The weight must not

Stop levitating. It must have long wings
In time. A deed divinity has brought
From deep within you, that is what you need.
Allowed to be what it will be, it must
Present itself a symphony and breed
Eternity. Perhaps it will combust
Unendingly like Moses’ bush or like

The Phoenix, yes, then yet remain renewed.
Perhaps it will be more as if a spike

Of gold imprinted on your heart, tattooed

A flagrant meaning every chest should know
And one that grew, and grows, and still will glow.

*“ ‘Avadana’ means a noteworthy deed that shows the ways in which the actions of one’s
existence are linked with those of former and future lives.” ~ Nayanjot Lahiri, Ashoka in Ancient
