Broad Marble Guidance
Appropriating what we want from Greece
Of centuries long, long past, we take the things
We find uplifting. Statues white as peace
Are chosen. Hermes lifts us up with wings
That grow from swiftest feet. His beauty speeds
Us up tabove what the sky lords destroy.
We know that there are things beyond men’s needs
In mortal days and nights. We know that joy
Beyond imagining is what the gods
Could show us if we search ourselves and souls
Divinely. Triumph waits, against the odds,
For men who set their minds for purest goals.
..The muscled brain and chest and broadest brow
….Of Zeus enoble us. They teach us how.
