Exilium Vita Est—Life is Exile
The Christians have it that our lives are ways
Of pilgrimage to take us on to where
Souls yearn to be. We stumble through a maze
Of trials, avoiding devil, trap, and snare.
The Buddhists feel that we are lost in pain
That souls cannot escape until they gasp
At some Enlightenment. Till then the stain
Of breeding evil has them in its grasp.
In Hinduism wandering souls are lost
In near unending transmigration’s grip.
Each soul is separated from the Brahman, tossed
Around. Each soul is like a flailing ship
That needs a perfect piloting to win
Its port. These all reject the bliss of sin.
