Twittering among Bare Branches: No Cherry Blossoms along the Tidal Basin
“Where have all the flowers gone?”
There once were flowers. They came up as bright
To nose and eye as if an angel bowed
Above them giving off a fragrant light
To show for us to see their petaled crowd
Along a limb or wide along a field.
They promised fruit and seed across the springs
And summers in the land where freedom’s yield
Could be relied on since the angel’s wings
Protected and encouraged. Now blooms are gone,
At least the ones from liberty and right
Are missing. Blooms don’t open in some dawn
Of decency forbidden by this blight.
..Instead we have a blossoming that’s rude
….And overbearing, leaders who are crude.
