Amor in Layered Ice
“Every gathering is another heat wave against our foolhardy snow angels.”
~ Jaime Mathis
The heart is an Antarctica despite
The myths. Romance in glaciers and rocks
Beneath them and in icebergs’ broken white,
Collapsing, indicates a paradox
At best. Would Satan’s new-fledged devils dive
To make snow angels in Antarctic waste
Before they plummet to their hellish hive?
Male friendship is a jewel made of paste,
Not diamonds, though both these solid states
Will sublimate to less than fiery gas
When crushed beneath the overwhelming weights
Of fear and greed smashed down against love’s mass.
..Warm fables made from sentiment can stand
…..For only moments in life’s polar strand.
