GALAXY QUEST
“Astronomers have found the oldest galaxy ever seen. Sadly they haven’t given it a very inspiring name—CL J1449 +0856. The curious patch of very faint red objects is so far away that we are seeing them when the universe was only about 3billion years old. But infrared images from the Hubble telescope show that it is surprisingly mature.”
What was it like to be the oldest of
The galaxies? How lonely was its time
Before the possibility of love
Appeared, before there was a light-made chime
And sympathetic resonance was sent
From stars to stars inside each one? Of course
The first old cluster of them had not sent
Out any desperate feelers for a gorse
Like shape of newly growing stellar heat.
The galaxy transmogrified to red
As eons passed and never tried to meet
Another mass — their love words left unsaid.
..When loneliness matures it is a saint
….In heaven, not yearning with prayers, faint.
