The Counter Tenor
…………..“Higher still and higher”
High singing in the gothic arches high
Above is asthe fan-like vaulting, spread
And strong in its complexity. That sky
Of stone divisions is at one with red
And gold bright bosses,* high, convoluted
Like melodies and harmonies around
This steep, this highest man’s part cornuted
Above, among the other all male sound.
The strangeness and the beauty of his voice
Is countered by the cuteness of his nose
And charming, boyish face. Let us rejoice
As his high obligato higher goes.
..He’s wholly masculine. His timbre rings
….Up high in fanned out arches shaped like wings.
