Just Married *
A silvery foil piece of confetti,
Much larger than the usual size of
This litter, waits there making its petty
Claim. Subtly it doesn’t allude to love
Where it fell, trapped between the cobblestones
Outside the Guildhall wedding factory
(Well, near the parish church, too). Litter loans
A certain tone. Dissatisfactory
As that a might be, trash lies there on its back,
Turned round, and is a challenge to decode,
Especially in a time when vows are slack.
(It means divorce is marriage a la mode.)
..“Just Married” is its message, nothing more.
….In forty years he’ll be on marriage four.
*The Guildhall in Windsor is where civil marriages are performed. It is where HRH Charles, the Prince of Wales, married his second wife, a divorced woman after he had divorced his first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales.
