Why Have Words?

           Why Have Words?

Why have words when what we need to say can
Be spoken by a groan?  The crucial things
Are best expressed by moans.  Let’s pass a ban
On verbs and nouns.  It’s wailing that has wings.
The ululation of an agony
Is eerier than threnodies with lines
Of similes and metaphors.  No plea
Is bitter like a sob, and brittle whines
Cut sharper than a rhyming rhapsody.
A whimpering animal is eloquent
Beyond degees of language and in ways
That greats like Sophocles might well resent.
A howl is always harsher than a phrase.
..No matter how comedic words and art,
….They’re never as hilarious as a fart.
