For the Eternity Being

          For the Eternity Being

One morning when they’d stayed up all night long
While moving house, he stepped outside with one
Last box of stuff, including hymn and song
Books–and Dillard’s Pilgrim.  Dawn, just begun,
Radiated through clear horizon air.
The sky contained no cloud, no moon—one star.
And blue.  The blue that plunged away from where
Infinity and sacrednesses are,
Spread blue beyond the dreams of mystics, saints,
And prophetesses.  Heaven fell ajar.
Bold glory crashed through him with no constraints.

The Abbot Joseph dismissed all desire.
“Why not be totally changed to fire?”
