The ostrich? Surely it could not have been

The eyes. They’re far too large and far too great

In sadness. They contain deep sorrow’s mien

Surrounded by light lashes on those lids.

Perhaps He made the ostrich so that He

Could joy in the flock of feathered kids,

Their steps on little stilts for godly glee.

It can’t have been the ugly legs of mum

Or dad, those nasty knees, or ugly neck.

What forced the great Jehovah to succumb

To THAT gangly temptation? What the heck!

I think that it was so that I could eat

A subtle French sauce on that autruche meat.
