Imagining the Buddha as a thing
Of ugliness might help. Any insights
Then might be less lovely. They might not sing
Like anthems in a temple full of lights
In polished candle holders. Beauty would
Become beside the point. Revelation
Would come related to a chunk of wood
Or bristles as ash from a cremation.
No prettiness is needed like the bloom
Of lotus or roots of a Bodhi tree.
A clay pot or a ladle in your room
Should be plenty for serendipity.
His ugly lips would even be enough.
Enlightenment can come from any stuff.
