Trump Cards Made of Satin
Let’s not be coarse or subtle, but some cloth
Between, perhaps like raw silk with nubbles
In warp and woof. Let’s use the wise god, Thoth,
As guide so no one’s falseness troubles
Debating of the truth. We need the strong
Resilience of silk’s weave to hold us back
From error as we go. Our hearts will long
To have their way, but we must not go slack
And let them win. We can’t allow ideals
To mist our minds. We have to let the facts
And logic overcome our hearts’ appeals
Lest we commit decapitation acts
When what is needed are the coolest brains.
Our public lives should know clear thinking’s reins.
