A Timely Question

      A Timely Question

“Have you thought about how long you’d like to inhabit

your current body?” ~ Jaime Mathis, February 10, 2016

How long should I aspire to stay in this

Old revenant–like form?  It hasn’t had

Rejuvenation vampires, cannot kiss

Its way through fangs to youth, but sagging, sad,

And slowly doomed my only hope lies in

Embalming of a living sort.  Perhaps

Injections just beneath the skin would spin

Out brief salvation.  Hindus would collapse

Me to Nirvana on lit Ganges pyres.

The Buddha wants me to ignore the sags

In skin and muscles and renounce desires.

He says my body and my flaws are rags

And I should loose them calmly like God’s breath

Through cherry blossoms.  Forget about death.
